| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com If Nevermind's sound is familiar now, it's only because thousands of rock records that followed it were trying very hard to cop its style. It tears out of the speakers like a cannonball, from the punk-turbo-charged riff of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" onward, magnifying and distilling the wounded rage of 15 years of the rock underground into a single impassioned roar. Few albums have occupied the cultural consciousness like this one; of its 12 songs, roughly 10 are now standards. The record's historical weight can make it hard to hear now with fresh ears, but the monumental urgency of Kurt Cobain's screams is still shocking. --Douglas Wolk

TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! August 17, 2010 JP 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
This album is less than nothing. Kurt can't sing, and the band is clearly not talented with their instruments which is why they dive into repitition. Song writting also deserves a dis-honorable mention.
Some of These Reviews Make Me Weep for Humanity... August 11, 2010 J. Scanlon 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Looking through the one star reviews, it appears the majority of reviewers are judging this album by everything about it that isn't the music. So I'll make it clear I will not be an Imbecile and tell you what I'm not including in this review.
-Personal lives of any members
-Irrational feelings that this "killed" or "saved" music. Most of those reviews were probably written by 12 year olds anyway.
-Mention of X Grunge Band being "better" as if its relevant
-The Pixies or Boston
-Terrible puns on Cobain's name
-Telling you that you are brainwashed if you disagree with how I feel about this album
-Rolling Stone lists
-The Album Cover
-Technical ability. If someones making me a sandwich, why should I give a damn whether or not they're a professional chef?
OK... Now that we've settled that let's get on to the product, shall we? The classic that kicked off the "grunge" movement - 'Nevermind'. From the opening clean chords to the final seconds of raging feedback it is a classic in every way. It contains arena-ready songs (Lithium,In Bloom) wonderful acoustic bits (Polly) and blazing punk pieces (Territorial Pissings,Stay Away). Most already know the two big radio singles (Teen Spirit, Come As You Are) but I personally don't find either to be the strongest bits of the album, your opinion may be different though for an album of this variety. The sense of melody and dynamics are incredible and the difference is Channing's (drumming on Bleach) and Grohl's drumming is immediately noticeable. A complaint for this album might be that it can feel overproduced at times. But how else could songs like "Lithium" feel as giant as they do? If you're looking for rawer production, go to any Nirvana album but this one...
In conclusion, this is the Nirvana album you want for tunes. If you want more punk influence go to bleach or if you want what IMO is their definitive release, check out "in Utero". don't forget to also pick up Incesticide and MTV Unplugged in NY.
Please let an album of this magnitude get the 4.5 star average like the rest of the classic albums have!
"With the lights out, It's less dangerous!" July 30, 2010 Nevermind, one of the best albums of the 90's to me. About every song that appears on this CD is amazing. From Smells Like Teen Spirit to On a Plain, this album is sure to satisfy. If your a fan of grunge or rock music, this album is the one for you.

This album changed the world, and is my favorite in a collection of over 1000, so I felt the need to adjust the mysterious 4 star average. I'm sure there are better reviews out there, but if you are on the fence I strongly suggest you buy it, even on the offchance you might have the opportunity to harvest the astronomical energy contained within.
